Hello,
Our potty-trained 6-year-old has recently started removing feces from the toilet after using it and placing it in the bathroom trash. We’ve explained that waste should stay in the toilet, but the behavior continues. She typically closes the door, uses the toilet, and then comes out.
To manage this, we’ve begun standing nearby to flush immediately after she finishes. Sometimes she is sensitive to the sound of flushing—covering her ears and running away—while other times she flushes repeatedly herself. As far as we know, this hasn’t happened outside the home, but we’d like to address it before it does.
Do you have any advice on how to discourage this behavior and help her feel more comfortable with the toilet routine?
