We are currently potty training my 3 year old son. He is progressing at home by sitting for longer periods on the toilet than he was say last week. We are increasing the time and he is happy to sit there whilst at home. When he attends his nursery twice a week, he isn’t doing well there at all. I don’t know if this is just home comforts kicking in or too much distraction there maybe.
They can’t get him sitting on the toilet for longer than 45 seconds. Whereas at home (most of the time) I can have him sat for 3 and a half minutes currently.
Do I let the nursery staff build the time up from 20 seconds as a separate time scale to at home as at home we are doing 3.5 minutes. I don’t want to confuse him with the timer…
Also, now my son is heading towards the 3-5 minute mark of sitting on the toilet at home. What’s the next step. He has successful trips daily (1/2) PB being 3! but still majority are accidents and always promoted by an adult to go to the toilet. I think it depends if he happens to need a wee at the time I take him he will use the toilet. If not then he will do it where ever he is stood.
Another question sorry, do you think potty training pants are a good idea? I think these may be ruining the dislike of feeling wet. They absorb more wee (which is good for my mental health) BUT if he felt wet by wearing ordinary pants. Could these potty pants be delaying the progress… he doesn’t seem to be bothered he’s wet when I’m the potty pants. But without them he is looking down like what the hell- my feet are wet! 🤣

No potty training pants, Underwear and if he has an accident HE Cleans up. It will of course be with your supervision but hand over hand.. clean up the mess. Don't make it fun, just be neutral. You had an accident, you need to clean it up.
For school my first question is has he used their bathroom sucessfully? If not how many accidents are they reporting each day? Have them used the last page of the potty sheet and report back at end of each day how it went.
We could be dealing with a potty phobia at school like there was at home. We can have them practice taking him and sitting comfortable to build their time up to 3 mins., but come back to me with what you know and we can take it from there. I suspect if they practice sitting with him we will have some potty successes just like at home. Also make sure they have the same rewards you use at home.
