My daughter is comfortable with her mini potty and since we are traveling for Columbus Day and can’t actually potty train until after our return, Michelle recommended I try to re-set the timer and have my daughter sit on the real potty with a seat insert. She refuses and seems really reluctant. I feel like I’m destroying the positive vibe in the potty I’ve created. Should I just stick with the little potty for training?
Answer:
I would still practice sitting on the mini potty and then run a separate program to get her comfortable with the seat insert.
For example.. she asks for anything... ok first sit on mini potty and then you get...
Then I would create a new special reward for interaction with the toilet seat insert. So if "comfortable" is just touching it...or sitting pants on.. I take it. and then build out from there. I would make sure that the insert you are using makes her feel secure.. I like the ones with the ladder and handles on the sides for them to hold on it.
I would keep at it.. and take the mini potty with you for continued practice. GOOD QUESTION and GOOD WORK. Let me know if this makes sense and if you have any other questions.
