Hello,
We are feeling frustrated. This is 5th day of potty training. We do every 30 minutes in AM from 7:00 am -8:30 am. We didn’t catch him when he peed this AM which usually is a sure one for all of us. Since I am working, Éric is committed to waking him up and starting potty trading right away.
He came home today at 1:30 pm. I brought him to the potty every 30 minutes bc I have work remotely at home until 3:30pm. We missed a poop and two pees.
Since 4:00 pm- 6:00 pm I stuck to every 10-15 minutes and sat him 4-5 minutes each time except once. We have been heavily rewarding him with peanut butter crackers and have the iPad in sight in the bathroom. He keeps peeing in the underwear. It’s very frustrating. I’m trying to stay positive.
I played potty time videos again to remind him. I keep emphasizing to go pee in the toilet and not underwear . I hope it’s getting through.
Are we missing something??
Help,
Tiffanie

Hi Tiffanie, for future reference you can reply to your past ask a coach questions vs opening a new question each time, that way I can see all the correspondence in one spot.
There is a lot to unpack here. First when parents are getting frustrated, we need to take a breath and step back and look at the data.
Are you data collecting? Can be in the notes app on your phone or you can use the toilet training data collection sheet on the last page of the potty pocket guide. If you are, what I want you to do is share how many wins on the toilet, how many misses, the windows of time you taking him (8am till he goes to school, 4pm to bed, etc), and then how often you are taking him. This will help us both troubleshoot and improve his success.
We didn’t catch him when he peed this AM which usually is a sure one for all of us. -->> what happen that you missed it? This is a judgement free question<>Since 4:00 pm- 6:00 pm I stuck to every 10-15 minutes and sat him 4-5 minutes each time except once. We have been heavily rewarding him with peanut butter crackers and have the iPad in sight in the bathroom. He keeps peeing in the underwear. >> Can you advise if he eliminated on the toilet at all? Please give me some more details here. If there were no wins and all misses, what do you think the problem is? Is he emptying the tank when he goes? Is he too far from the bathroom? Is he leaving your site to sneak and pee?
I understand that you want this, I think what's making this more painful then it needs to be is it feels like we are on some clock with getting this done. He is making progress but frustration happens when we aren't looking at clean data and/or we are under some sort of timeline. If we are committed to the result no matter what and we KNOW he can do it, because he has shown us he can, then its only about reps and tells. Does this make sense?
Let me know if this makes sense.

Also I am under the weather with a cold so I thought I sent this last night but I see it’s not there. If we choose to potty train before school, LOVE IT but also know that .. that is when we might not be at our best because we are rushing around getting ready to start the day, so if you want to work on it before he goes to school, LOVE IT but dont kick your own ass if I miss a pee because if I am going ot miss it, its when I am busy. Let me know if this makes sense.
