Potty Training Intensive

Hey Michelle,

This weekend, we started the potty training extensive and it’s gone pretty well. We’ve have our son bottomless for clear visibility.

Saturday, we got two full poops and multiple pees in the toilet. We did have a couple of accidents, but this only occurred when we strayed from our set environment. Lesson learned.

Sunday, thus far, we’ve gotten every pee in the toilet. No accidents. No poop yet. One time, he actually said “potty”. We told him to go to the bathroom. He went on his own and eliminated. This was very exciting.

Tomorrow, he goes back to ABA for a full day. I’m concerned about losing progress while he’s at school if they aren’t watching him as closely as we are. Any suggestions?

Also, we’ve been transition him from diapers with the use of training underwear. Should we just ditch these and go straight to regular underwear?

Answer:

Wholly Smokes!!!!!! So excited for you. Good job!!! If he's 80% or better accident free here is what you're going to do - send him in with underwear, the rewards and a bunch of changes of clothes. Tell the center your schedule, give them the tracking sheet to collect data (last page of potty guide) and let's see how he does.

Make sure you take him one time right before leaving for school and they take.
Him one last time before heading home.

Because you've been doing it bare bottom I would get him in undies till bedtime. So FLIPPING proud of you!!! This is just the beginning!

  2. Files section of Facebook group or in the study vault just scroll all the way down.

Tell school this is #1 focus and make sure they keep the schedule you created at home.

  3. I’m not gonna lie to you, I haven’t been on facebook in nearly 15 years and have no idea how to navigate it. I can’t find files or the study vault you’re referring to. Would it be possible to have it emailed to me?

Also, regarding the schedule, we started at 3-5 mins on, 15 mins off, but that presented as too frequent. Therefore, we were to 30 mins off, then 45 mins off, then just started watching cues: crossing legs, potty dance, clinching, etc.

How should I relay that to school?

  4. Hey Michelle,

Benjamin has been doing amazing with potty training. In just two weekends, he has started asking for the potty and eliminating without hesitation. Additionally, there have been multiple occasions where he just goes on his own, and we end up finding him on the toilet having eliminated. It’s crazy. Over the past 10 days, I think he has only had six accidents.

Furthermore, we’ve progressed from having him completely bottomless while training to having underwear on 100% of the time. We will continue to add layers and introduce new locations to really hone his new skills.

Do you have any suggestions on how to transition from home to other places to ensure he’s comfortable pottying everywhere?

  5. YEAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! David you’re a boss! GREAT JOB!!! I hope Mom is happy too! I would just do more of what you’re doing, take him to places that if he had an accident it wouldn’t be a big deal. Like those bath houses near playgrounds or a fast food place. Make him practice using it in all the places.. Target and Walmart are good places too. Is he going to school in underwear? How is night time training?

So flippin proud of you guys! Can’t wait to work on what’s next!!!

  6. Got it. He is in underwear full-time at school except during naptime.

What should we be doing for nighttime training? Right now, we just put him (and his sister) in a pullup before the go to bed.

  7. No. Also, I’ve been made aware that at ABA, they put him in a pullup (or diaper) during nap and he has eliminated in it frequently. How do we navigate this?
