Potty Training

I can get my son to consistently sit on the toilet for 3-5 minutes, but he won’t eliminate. We’re doing 3-5 minutes on the potty and 15 minutes off. When we are off the potty, he will pee or poop in his underwear. What do we do?

Answer:

Yay! Excellent start. If you haven’t already, make sure to listen to “Potty Power” — it’s the A to Z of potty training inside your study vault. That’s your foundation.

Now that he’s sitting, our only job is to catch it. That’s it. Depending on his age, I like using a 3–5 minute sit, every 10–15 minutes OFF. (So 3–5 on, 10–15 off.)

But this ONLY works if:

A) You’re close to the bathroom. Like in the room next door close. AND YOU MUST LIMIT HIS MOVEMENTS TO ONLY THIS ROOM
B) You’ve got eyes on him at all times — peripheral view, no exceptions.
C) You’re ready to RUN. As soon as you see the start of pee or poop, pick him up and get him on that toilet.

If even one drop lands in the toilet, reward it like he won the Super Bowl.
The reward has to be 10x the ask — something he’d do anything to earn. (If it’s not that strong, it won’t work.)

Take data. Use the last page of the Potty Pocket Guide (it’s in the study vault or the files section of the FB group). This will tell us if we’re getting closer or still missing it.

You’re on the path. Sitting is huge. Most parents get stuck way before this.
Let me know if you need help troubleshooting from here.

Thx!
