Sensitivity to light

My grandson who is autistic will scream and cry with sudden brightness or lights especially coming out of a darkened area. He even reacted to the brightness on my phone as the daylight diminished. He does have blue eyes. Is this an eye color thing or perhaps asd?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.
Sudden changes in the environment, such as loud noises, abrupt changes in location, and varying light intensities, can be distressing for some individuals, particularly if the lighting is fluorescent.

If your grandson is sensitive to bright light, there are a few things you can do to help minimize this discomfort. You might consider offering him sunglasses, a hat, or a hoodie sweatshirt that can be worn to provide some shade from any bright lights. Such measures can be quite effective in reducing the amount of light that reaches his eyes and help make him more comfortable.
