I lost so much time…

“I lost so much time and I feel so guilty that I could’ve gotten her services much sooner.

Last week I was talking to a mother who was interested in joining my group coaching program.

She was telling me about her daughter, who around the age of 2 years old, started losing her language, became disengaged from her siblings, and became a completely different person from how she described it.

She didn’t want to come to terms that something was wrong with her daughter. Like me, she didn’t want to see the writing on the wall.

She was in denial.

More time had passed and now it was undeniable.

Fast forward 2.5 years later she was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 4.5

She is now 7 years old and is non-verbal and not yet potty trained.

This mother cried to me on the phone saying“I lost so much time and I feel so guilty that I could’ve gotten her services much sooner.”

I know how that feels because I felt the exact same way.

BUT

When you let yourself spiral about the past, there is no upside to it.

There is no benefit.

There is only suffering and pain.

You’re too busy focusing on what you should’ve done and could’ve done that you’re not focusing on WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW to make things different for your child, I told her.

Feeling guilty is optional. It’s a choice.

How much better does being empowered feel? How much better does confidence feel?

Let’s decide to stop choosing guilt and start to feel those emotions instead and get the results you want to see for your daughter, I said.

I believed enough that her daughter can and would be just fine for the two of us.

She enrolled last week in my program.

If you ever thought “I lost so much time” don’t spend any more time feeling like shit about it. Focus on spending the time you have now doing right by your child.

Imagine not having to worry about Autism or time. The time you have left on earth and how will your child live without you?

Imagine feeling so certain that your child will be at a place of independence. Feeling so happy that your child is fully potty trained and confident that you made it happen. Imagine feeling so safe knowing that your child can communicate their own safety to you too.

It’s all possible.

There is no wasted time.
