Colton has had 2 BCBA therapist and 3 techs since starting 2 years ago . His tech right now is out at least one to two days a week lately due to her own child sickness and now hers . His BCBA stated to us that she would not leave him in the clinic if neither her or his regular tech were not present that day . I’m not real comfortable with this tech situation right now because we don’t know the tech he’s left with even though the tech may be familiar with him . What’s your opinion on this revolving door of caregivers . I do like his BCBA and she in fact has an autistic child who is there at the same facility . She understands our concern but I guess it’s up to us to send him or not on those days when his tech is out or his BCBA is out . Thanks

Thank you for your question! Unfortunately this is very common in the field of ABA. The majority of agencies and clinics are short staffed due to the increasing number of children being diagnosed with ASD. My opinion is as long as there is a therapist/tech available for Colton at the clinic and he can continue receiving services that is better than no services at all! You can also ask to meet the tech that you do not know to become more familiar, but like you said they probably know Colton pretty well from working with him even if they do not work with him every day. You can of course look into a different clinic, depending on if there are any others near you, but often they are experiencing similar staffing problems. Overall, I would definitely express your concern to the agency and maybe even ask if Colton can permanently be switched to the tech that is more available and not calling out all the time. But like I said services with a different tech is better than no services at all. Good luck!
