My son keeps rolling and twisting balls and stuff between his fingers. I believe this is a sensory issue. How do I stop it or should I accept this anyway?
Answer:
Thank you for your question! This definitely sounds sensory-related. Stopping it vs. accepting it depends on if and/or how much it interferes with his daily life. If he is still able to play, concentrate in school, etc. than I would say accept it. BUT if it is really interfering with many or all aspects of his life then let's talk about stopping/redirecting the behavior to something more functional/appropriate. Please post in a follow up comment and let me know how often this is occurring throughout his day. Also what kind of balls and "stuff" is he using? For example, cotton balls, baseballs, basketballs, etc. I look forward to hearing from you and getting to the bottom of this!
