Potty Training 8+

My son is OK using the potty for #1 no issues at all.
For # 2 he knows the process end to end but refuses to poo in the potty itself.
Have tried several ways to motivate him but the behaviour has not changed.
Need some ideas as to what else we could do.
Thanks

Answer:

So I'd love more details around his refusal to poop.

How long has he been pee trained? How did you do it?
Is he pooping once a day? When does it usually happen?
Is he wearing underwear or pullups?
Has he ever pooped on the toilet? What happen?
What is the reward for going (if nothing, I'd want to start here and I'd want to brainstorm anything that would be a 10+ in desire for him)
How/Where does he poop currently?
When you find the mess, what usually happens?
Have you ever caught him mid poop? What happen?

The name of the game for poop training is we need to create more desire to do it in the toilet and less desire elsewhere. Pooping is a VERY different sensory experience so it's normal for pee to happen first and poop to take longer because it feels different and we dont get as any opportunities to practice. We have to really study their behaviors around this and close the window of options in combination with providing HIGH DESIRE - this is the winning formula.

Make sure to come to my (Michelle's Calls) and BCBA calls and we can dialoge it direct there as well but if you can't make the calls this week, reply back here and I'll look at your answers and provide next steps.
